What is md902 helicopter?

The MD902 Explorer is a twin-engine light utility helicopter manufactured by McDonnell Douglas Helicopter Systems (MDHS), later by MD Helicopters. It was developed from the McDonnell Douglas MD900, utilizing the NOTAR (no tail rotor) system for anti-torque and directional control, which provides a safer and quieter operation compared to traditional tail rotor systems.

The helicopter has a seating capacity of up to eight passengers and can fly at a maximum range of 452 nautical miles. It has a maximum takeoff weight of 6,283 pounds and can reach a maximum speed of 151 knots. The helicopter is powered by two Pratt & Whitney Canada PW207E turboshaft engines.

The MD902 has been used for a variety of missions, including law enforcement, emergency medical services, private and corporate transportation, and military operations. It is also known for its excellent handling, maneuverability, and performance in high-altitude and hot-temperature environments.

Production of the aircraft began in 1991 and ended in 2000, with a total of 147 units produced. MD Helicopters continues to provide support and spare parts for the MD902, and it remains in service with various operators worldwide.
